Currently minimum wage is $8.31. In 2017, that goes up 99 cents to $9.30 an hour, and it'll keep going up 90 cents each January, until it hits $12.

"We actually pay our employees that minimum wage and more so it's not an issue for us," said Richard Skorman, Co-Owner Poor Richard's shops downtown.

While a lot of small businesses may struggle with higher labor costs, some like Skorman's downtown shops advocated for 'Yes' on Amendment 70 and are happy it passed.

"It would be great for them to have the advantage that people who work for us have and to have some more money in their pockets," said a smiling Skorman. ...

 

"You can't find a one bedroom apartment for under seven or eight hundred dollars. It's not easy, somebody who is making minimum wage is lucky to have half of their income going to rent and utilities," said Skorman. ...
