A large coalition of businesses said they welcome the new requirements.
Mark Robokoff, owner of AK Bark pet supply store in Anchorage, is part of that coalition of more than 130 Alaska operators and the Alaska Black Chamber of Commerce, which backed the measure.
The state’s economy will benefit overall as more workers have more money to spend, Robokoff said in a statement provided by Business for a Fair Minimum Wage, a national network of business owners and executives who supported the Alaska ballot measure and similar measures in other states.
“As the playing field becomes more level, Alaska businesses will see increased revenue and decreased employee turnover, which will help cover the cost of increased wages,” Robokoff said in the statement. “Aside from the economic gains, this law improves the lives, security and overall state of mind of members of Alaska communities.” ...
