GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- January 1st brings in a new year and will also bring about new changes for businesses and employees in Colorado. Amendment 70 starts at the beginning of the year and will raise the minimum wage in Colorado from $8.31 an hour to $9.30 an hour.  It will also increase the minimum wage $0.90 cents each year until the wage reaches $12.00 an hour by the year 2020.

“Any time there is more money in the community that is a positive thing,” said Barb Roberts, owner of local Five60 Salon in downtown Grand Junction.

Roberts is also excited to see her employees at her salon reap the benefits of the minimum wage increase. “I think it will be great for them, it will offer them more stability, it will offer us more stability as a business we will be able to keep our employees happier,” said Roberts. ...

Five60 Salon has run the numbers and believe it will raise their payroll about 5% and Roberts encourages other business owners to do the same.  “Run the numbers do it in black and white and you know it might not be as scary as you think it is,” said Roberts.
